Hi all newbi here again 2nd post different question.

I did a site search here and found similar questions on the lack of power, but no definitve answer. So mine is phrased slightly differently. I have a possible solution but need it verifying first, to see if its aviable outcome for the cost.

On pulling away I find it lacking power on taking off, and under acceleration with two up front. Have looked at a remap but in my day a retune was new cam, exhaust, carbs and a head mod.

So back to remapping, had a look at a couple of sites and input car reg for specs. Now they all seem to offer an 8% increase in BHP and Torque.

The standard BHP is 77 this inceases to 88, and the torque is 115 inceases to 124. And all that extra for around the £150 -£250 mark.

Question I have to ask is that a significant incease to overcome the sluggish start and lack of power under acceleration. Would I feel the difference I dont want to splash the cash and feel no extra power difference.

As I said ealier in the day you fitted the parts and away you sped instant hard on (pardon my English, only way I know how to express it sorry)

Personally if it were me I wouldn’t bother with the expensive remap. The money it costs + increase in insurance wouldn’t be viable for 11bhp.

Have you looked into changing the air filter? I hear you can get a similar increase in bhp from a k&n air filter or cold air intake.

As above, for the costs involved including insurance it'd be cheaper and easier to get a T-Jet (1.4 16v Turbo) version.
Well that’s one option to look at thanks.

Well you learn something new every day, wouldn’t have thought that would have made a difference. Well worth a delv into it though. Thanks

I’d say 11hp from an air filter is very far fetched, that said if you wanted to and had the patience you could over time, fit a better exhaust, better cleaner air intake and possibly research something like a fast road cam, an then the remap would probably make the differences you’re looking for, otherwise a remap on its own, is unlikely to make any significant difference to these engines.

Buying a T-Jet is expensive but would give you what you’re after, alternatively buy any diesel and have that remapped as you can easily unlock much more power on a diesel with a remap

Hi,
If you need any help with insurance for a re-map then please feel free to drop me a line.
Regards,
Dan.
