When my headlights are on and I step on the break my external light failure light comes on and if I take my foot of the break the light goes off. This only happens if the headlights are on. If the headlights are off and I step on the break the light does not come on. I have checked all the bulbs and they seem fine. What could be the cause of this.

Nope i haven't changed any of my break lights they are all the once that came with the car. In from I have changed my park lights but that was almost a year ago and both still work fine.

Hi,
You have a bad earth on one of your rear light clusters. The extra current of the brake light causes the voltage across the earth to rise and the light fialure detector thinks the side light has failed. Probably a corroded push on connector at the light cluster.
