I have got a nice brand new 2013 punto GBT brio pack in white. I had to wait around a month for it as I had a couple of extras added to it.

So today giving it a good clean, clay bar and some waxing when I noticed that it is starting to go rusty already. I have only had the car less than a month.

The area that is rusty is inside the bonnet, where the mechanism is that lifts the bonnet. Picture below to give you an idea.

So is this normal for a brand new car? I really need some advise. Should the car be going back to the dealer?

Should the metal be treated to prevent this rust. I am now concerned that if it is going rusty here, where else is it going rusty where I cannot see.

Advise please......Thanks

Not done anything to the car. My initial thoughts was rust coming through paint. Also found slight areas on other parts around inside of engine area. Will have a close look tomorrow.

If the rust is coming through the paint, this worries me as the car is only 1 month old. What is the condition of the metal going to be like in a year.

If I took it to a dealer, what would they do anyway? Strip paint and put some sort of protection over bare metal then re paint?

Looks like iron fall out to me iron- x should remove it no issue

I will look into that. What do I need to do with iron x. Paint on and leave or rub on and remove? Does it effect paint?

Sorry for being a bit stupid.

Thanks.

The only problem I have now, is where can you actually get iron x from?

As previously said - don't worry. White is a 'b' for showing up any airborne crud.
Start to worry if it shows brown around body seams.
In 1990 I bought a brand new Vauxhall cavalier SRi in white. After a few weeks started to see brown marks around seams. Two trips to the dealer and 7 months later Vauxhall re-shelled the car in the factory as a warranty claim - apparently when my car was built there was a problem in the paintshop with bare metal shells and they were exposed to something which caused them to rust..... I tried to get a deal on a trade in, but because of the corrosion warranty the car had to be rebuilt. Fair play it was better than new when it came back and I was loaned a brand new one for 2 months. I am told that in those days they had a team in the factory who specialised in big warranty jobs. Because it was a factory re-shell they were able to put the original vin number on the new one.
