Hiya pplz!

I was just wondering what i could do (Performance wise) with the 2004 Punto sporting 1.4i 16v? Ive just bought the yellow one.. Well i get it this friday actually an i cant wait! Ive had a few people say "just buy air filters etc" but i want something more detailed than that! Im going to have the car for a few years so i want it running sweet an ANY suggeustions would be great!

buy an HGT if you want more performance. no seriously it will work out cheaper and more reliable.

if you insist on wasting money then you can remap your 1.4, and stick a full exhaust system on (need to remove cat to get any real gain, and fit a better manifold), and an air filter. but for the money it would be chepaer to get an HGT, and a standard HGT would still be faster.

personally i think you're better off sticking a decent air filter on the 1.4 and leave it like that, then you can expect some long term reliability.

Thanks for that! I will most def look into the HGT =) I was thinking about buying the exhaust system couple of weeks after getting it but i think i`ll wait for now...

Ive been reading some really good points about the 04 model an by the looks of it the only downfall is being on a motor way (cross winds/doesnt run smoothly on uneven serfaces) *excuse the spelling!* which i can cope with.
I hear its a lil *Roundabout-Terrorist* the way you can tuck the nose in with a slight touch of the gas pedal.. Hope this is all thrue! Also the option of turning tractiontion contol off for some left foot breaking! Cant wait!

1.4i 16v i would think that would be fast enough, but then again my dad has an MK4 Astra same size of engine 1.4i 16v i took it for a drive when he just got it 20k on the clock and i thought it was sluggish and the odd flat spot poor throttle response then sometimes it would surprise you and shoot off like a ROCKET! so that wasnt very good as yer not expecting it, and to make things worser good god its s*** at holding the roads i almost lost it going roundabout doing 25mph and thats when the roads where dry with no oil just dry, but my punto is a 1.2i 8v.. lol honestly it is alot nippyer pulling away and also i can do 25mph going round a roundabout with no problems, so just think what your 1.4i 16v should be like and with the right full exhaust s/sprint i would think is the best for performance inc other little mods..

Yea i aint toooo fussed on the speed as ive had a nova 1.4 SR which was pretty rapid (a pug slayer!) or i had this carlton which was *nippy* but sadly i wrote that off =( Anywayz!..
The point is i fell inlove with the sporting when my Fiat Tech of step dad showed me around his garage... an to all you people out there with a sporting 1.4.. DONT GO OVER 3000RPM WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD! wait for the norm... Otherwise give it a year an you will find yaself spending X amount on a new engine.. (lmfao) no joke either.. I aint no mechanic but my step dad is a fiat tech an im pretty sure he knows what he`s sayin. He introduced me to this site (so i geuss he`s sayin stop bugging me all the while =P) But thanks for the idea of the HGT engine i will look into that *eventually*
About that astra 1.4... I know it had only done 20k on the clock but by any chance could it of been the spark plugs? cuz i had trouble like that with my nova an until i changed the plugs it was kinda sluggish an when you wasnt expecting it, it would suddenly kick back in an yes "like a rocket" lol which isnt good at all (especially if theres a car infront!)

Agree with you on that one, when the engine is cold the oil dosnt move around as fast and laying at the bottom, and once you start her up you have to give the engine oil time to lubricate the engine before you go mental with the accelerator ive never whent over 3000rpm from cold dont want a worn out engine even tho she has 98k on her... lol :slayer:

No wasnt the plugs m8 end up finding out it was the EGR (common problem for the MK4 Astras 00-03, its for emmisions with the exhaust ect.. i think it works like the lambda sensor for the Punto sept the EGR is a valve and it was sticking and not letting all the gasses pass through the way they should so thats that problem sorted.

I dunno about the sound level with the supersprint but ive been told they dont sound loud but a nice noise, but you would have to ask sumone with one couldint tell you to be honest, supersprint exhaust thats the name of it but i know its the best for performance for the punto and is proven to add on bhp.. About Air Filters GSR Induction Kit would be the best to get i would think thats if there is one for the MK2 1.4i 16v i know theres one for the MK2 1.2i 16v if theres one made or in progress that should add on bhp also.. :slayer:

S/sprint looks promising* for me as i dont want a well loud punto, it would just look an sound out of place in my opinion. I`ll ask my step dad about the GSR Induction kit as i have a mk2B. 95bhp sounds right maybe its 100bhp? aint sure though sumone should be able to correct me on that or when you get your own punto handbook.. I would say just by a guess you could get another 10bhp without damgeing the engine or maybe even more i aint sure sumone will know though..
