Has anyone had any problems with their drivers seat breaking during an accident? I was hit from behind wile stationary a few days ago in my 2000 reg punto and the back of the seat collapsed behind me. that doesn't seem a very good safety feature to me so i was wondering if it had happened to anyone else?

it broke where the back of the seat meets the bottom of the seat, so the back completely collapsed to the floor of the car

well in all honesty, once a car's been crashed it does affect a lot of things, hence why cars that have been crashed and then repaired aren't worth much and are generally frowned on.

is it 3 or 5door?

if the other cars insurance pays out you'll get a nice new fresh comfy seat:cool:

it hadn't been crashed before, this was its first crash. The point I was asking about is that the seat broke during the crash, rendering the seatbelt completely useless and contributing to my injuries and I wondered whether this was something that had happened to anyone else? The car's a total wreck so I'm not bothered about sorting the seat out I'm just interested to find out why it happened.

no what I mean is a crash is not mean't to happen

therfore a lot of random stuff can break for seamingly no reason.

if it caused greater injury to you then you can take it up with fiat (on a medical/soliceter level, walking into your local dealer ain't gonna help atall).

as the seat shouldn't have broken like that.

Cheers, that's what I was looking for as I was pretty sure that definitely shouldn't have happened but wanted to check and wanted to see if it was a common issue with puntos.

the front seats may have broken if there was a lot of random heavy goods unsecured in the back of the car. but I doubt it. but if you got hit from behind heavily even that wouldn't have happened.

cars are mean't to have crashs forwards, if you know what I mean, i.e you fly forward, airbag/seatbelt stops you and pulls you back into your seat.

since the accident happened the other way round where the occupant was thrown backwards into the seat, it would have experiance forces it wasn't nesseerily designed for.

theres also a weight issue, I don't mean to be rude in any way, but if you are big (more than say 17-18st) then that wouldn't help.

I can tell you that so far Im on my 3rd Seat Replacement in my 2000 Fiat Punto.

And yes will be getting another one soon. This seat has lasted 30000 miles and the seat is broken at the base yet again.

When the seat breaks you get back aches as the seat falls slightly down on the left hand side, aprox .5 to 1 cm. This causes back ache as the deat isnt flush.

Also it causes the seat to slighly move when going round corners / breaking.

When the seat finaly becomes detached, you can virtualy pick it up on the left hand side so if you was in a accident, you will prob fly through the window. Unless the airbag catches you first

The seat has broken from the base part.

I can also confirm that One of my friends had the same problem on his 2002 punto with the seat breaking at the bottom part.

Im now begining to wonder if there is a major design fault with the punto seat.

Im worried as this is going to be my 4th seat.
