hey,
ive read through all the posts on this topic and found it very difficult to find a straight answer on this. I have a mk2 punto and if possible i would like to know how to get it off and replace with new one, preferably someone who has done it and is not just guessing lol..

help appreciated

Thanks

Mike

there are two ways ive used that work!

1) pull for dear life and it Will eventually come off (and youll end up flying backwards...loads fun lol)

or

2) get a big set of mole grips and tighten them to the top of the gear nob and twist it! it will compleatly ruin the standard gear nob but if your putting another one on itll be kk:D

i used number 2 on my own mk2 and number 1 on a friends car and to fit the after market one just follow the instructions (its easy) just remember to get a lift up reverse

Hacksaw,mole grips,kitkat,swearjar,loo roll,screwdrivers(all you have),plasters,big hammer,spare hacksaw blades,and 4 cans of fosters!

Take all this and about 1hour of your life and you will be rewarded!!

i also cut 50mm of the shaft, much better now!!

On the mk2 jsy put a spanner jst under the knob and tap with a hammer thts wot i did came straight off (y)

i saw sum1 do that with his mk1 too, seems the easiest way to do it :D

beat me to it.

when I did my mk1 knob it took me two days, and three different sets of molegrips, eventually gave up and hacksawed it into pieces, then it still wouldn't come off.
read about someone doing a coupe knob with a spanner and rubber hammer.
tried this on a mates mk1, and came off within maybe 3mins?, unsure to what damage all this does to the ball joint at the bottom
