My 04 Punto (1.2 8V) seems to be affected from this highly un-usual hot weather the UK is experiencing - after all it always rains in the UK .

After getting the engine hot and normally when starting after a stop (say a visit to Tesco's) the engine is somewhat erratic and idle becomes unstable. Occassionly the engine will stall with the RPM varying between 500 - 1200.
It is also noticed that the engine idles at say 1200 RPM when restarting hot.

When revv-ed the instability seems to disappear while the throttle is depressed.

I'm sure this didn't happen during the winter months but I could be wrong, and it did get through the last service (the expensive 2nd one) with no problems reported by the dealer.

Anybody got any ideas prior to getting it booked in at the Fiat garage.:worship:

i heard something about puntos having an erratic revs prob but shouldn't stall i dont think, one of the tech guys will be able to help

Has this happened since the service(plugs/leads)? Is there a faint smell of oil(breather pipe)?

If not I would look towards the throttle potentiometer as a first port of call for your problem...covered by 3rd year warranty.

No was doing it before service, which makes me wonder why the fiat garage didn't spot anything.

My previous Punto suffered after a service, they managed to put a dodgy spark plug in - it ran rough as nails.

Looks like it will have to go in for them to look at - but I will take on board the throttle pot'r. Get it sorted before the 3rd year warranty runs out.

My girlfriends Punto just developed the air warning light problem - on all the time. Needless to say it is just over three years old and out of warranty. Fiat garage wanted £75 + VAT fixed charge and stated a 1.5 hour fixing time. Decided to go with a guy from Yellow pages, he turned up in a boiler suit with the FIAT logo on it - strange hey - charged £35 and took less than 15 minutes to identy the cause, clean the passenger side airbag connections and reset the ECU.
All fine for the time beng......:slayer:
