I've recently acquired a new door mirror to replace a damaged one, but am having difficulty removing the plastic nut holding the thing in place. I'm also worried about replacing it securely one the new mirror's fitted.

Can anyone suggest the right tool to do this job? It's not a hex nut and the only accessible 'hold points' are deeply recessed and hard to get to.

which Punto mate?

Spirito di Punto | M-reg 55SX, black, 5dr. Clear repeaters. I'm fitting remote locking this week!!

yep sounds liek a mark 2. they are fixd on with a ring nut and fiat have a special tool for removing it. [:(!]arnt they nice doing that lol what hell wrong with normall nut[:(!]. anyway as i was saying fiat use a special tool for removal. its a strange looking think, its lik a cylinder like a large round battery shape with little bits sticking out the end that must grip the ringnut. not sure what you could use in its place.[V] it must go onto a torque rench as the manual gives figure for tightening it.

Thanks for the help folks. It is a Mark 2, and I thought it might turn out to be a FIAT conspiracy [:(!]. Looks as though I might have to visit the garage after all. But if I do figure out a way of doing it myself I'll post it here.
