Question Head lights stopped working

Hi!

I own Fiat Punto 1.9 JTD (year 2000)

Few days ago both head lights stopped working at the same time.
- I checked light fuses under the steering wheel. They're fine.
- I checked the bulbs. They're also fine.
- I checked the voltage on the fuses. It's 12 V when light switch is ON.
So this must mean that light switch and relay are also good.
- But when I checked the voltage on the bulbs it was allways 0 V.

Is there something between light fuses and light bulbs which may be broken (except wires)?

If it's only wires how can I find both ends of the wire so I can check it?
Is there some wiring diagram available on the net?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Head lights stopped working

just looking at me wiring diagram in haynes manual there is also a fuse box in rthe engine bay. also dont forget the relays. when you turn the lighst on you are giving power to the relay this in turn flips the power on to the bulbs. if the relay is broken then lights wont work. think there is relay for em in the engine fuse box. dont know wich one it is though.

does anyone else know ???

Re: Head lights stopped working

There is a relay for main lights under the steering wheel.
It's the bottom-right one.
If I remove it, then the voltage on fuses is allways 0V.
When relay is in place and light switch is on, voltage on fuses is 12V . So this means that relay is working.

According to labels in the engine fuse box, there are only fuses for "long" lights (beams is the term I suppose).
If I remove them, beams stop working, so this has nothing to do with main lights I suppose.

Re: Head lights stopped working

I forgot to update this thread after I fixed it. I went to mechanics and they fixed it. I don't remember what was the problem anymore, but It didn't cost me much.

Just to add 2p..there is no relay for the dipped beam or sidelight, direct feed via fuses. This means the current is taken by the stalk switch..this has been know to burn out...A useful and simple mod to save frigging around with a new switch is to fit an extra relay for the dips.
