Hallo everyone, I'm new here You may find me again later on in the Punto technical forum asking about cd changers...

But anyway. Here's my first stupid question. I just bought a lovely silver Punto 1.2 HLX 16V (2000). I want to get a bit of background knowledge about the car, and I'm also thinking of putting in a cd changer or replacing the stereo. With this in mind, I've been searching this forum for others who've done this kinda thing as research.

My question is: how would a car like mine be referred to? I see all this stuff about Mk1s, Mk2s, 60s, 80s etc but very little mention of HLX's. I thiiink from reading around that mine is generally referred to as a Punto 80 (as in BHP) but I might be wrong and before I start thinking I know what I'm doing I want to check I'm reading the right advice for my particular car!

think though dont know the puntos so well that the mk1's had the bhp model numbers and the mk2's letters.
dont know the hlx but i would guess its a mid range spec?

So that would suggest it's a mk2...if anyone else knows better please chime in...

hlx are a bit like a mk2 elx but with added sunroof even with air con, alloys and colour coded mirrors, as far as i could tell. although the hlx i was looking at was jap spec

yeah its a mk2 probbly 5 door ?? and quite good on the spec list, well that is what i allways thought lol

Yep, its got quite a nice spec. Mine's 5 door; doesn't have a sun roof, but does have alloy wheels, air con, electric front windows The weakest thing from my point of view is the factory stereo which only has a casette player, but that's a seperate thing. So it's a mk2 then, cheers guys. I've been seeing things (from eg Halfords) like "Fitting facia for Fiat Punto Mk2 8/99>" and wanted to check it was the right thing for my car.
