Hey all…

My M reg Punto 1.7TD is blowing out excessive smoke when changing though the gears.

I expect diesels to smoke a bit when cold, however this is happening all the time.

Have just noticed this recently…. I’ve done an oil change, replaced the fuel and air filters. Also tried Injector Cleaner.

Is there anything else, I could try? As it’s getting embarrassing when smoke blinds the person behind me! :yuck:

Cheers… Keith

I know very little but erm....does that mean that oil is being burned or the head gasket might have gone?

Try and thrash it a little, maybe the turbo might need clearing.

i used to have the same car and mine had the same problem. i got told its because the turbo is on its way out. i hope it isnt the same on yours though because its supposed to be about £150.

Smoke on any turbocharged engine is usually down to the turbo bearing oil seals wearing out. You can get the turbo rebuilt or exchanged, but turbos tend to be expensive items; £150 would probably be a very good price! (y)

Thanks Guys...

I thought it could be clogged injectors.

But this has confirmed my worse fears... the turbo is nacked! besdies.... it's drinking diesel like it's going out of fashon at the mo.

It maybe best to part as I only paid £500 for it 9 mths ago. It's a solid runner besides tho. Cheers K
