Need a quick answer please. I am re-fitting a camshaft for an 8V 1.2 Punto. The Haynes manual says to position it so that the valve lobes of no.1 cylinder are pointing up (piston 1 at TDC). But which lobe on the camshaft - 1 or 2? They are at 90 degrees to each other.

Both Lobe 1 and 2 are for Cyl1
Now iirc no1 is for Exhaust no is for inlet but tbh - if the cam gear is installed, the timing mark should be clear to tell you where to time up with

The gear on most of the 8v engines (I think some engines from Brazil -- rarities over here -- are different) is keyed in place.

That said, TDC on compression on cylinder #1 (by convention the cylinder closest to the timing belt) will have both lobes for that cylinder pointing upwards and not bearing on the cam followers. This is really only important for measuring valve clearances.
