Hi,

Right, I have had a problem with my punto, regarding an engine issue. The garage have taken the pi$$ quite frankly, but I really need my car back.

The coils etc have all been changed, but the garage have said there is an issue with the multi-injection system. I will be honest, I know pretty much nothing about cars other than the fact that mine is costing me a fortune.

Hopefully one of you will know what they meant, and can give me an idea of how much I am looking at to get it repaired.

To explain the issue, the car started misfiring the other day, and juddering when moving. Needless to say, the warning light was on. The garage said that it was the coils and wiring etc that needed replacing, which they did. Having done so, they said it is a problem with the multi-injection unit, which caused the knock-on problem with the coils etc.

I have already spent an absolute fortune on the car and so any help or advice from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

There are a few companies either refurbishing ECUs or selling virginised units. £100 or so, IIRC. Search here should throw a few up.

The tests for ECU faults are in the FAQs/Guides.

Would that be a separate issue though? The garage said I would need to fix the multi injection system first before worrying about the ecu?

They said the two systems are different components

They are morons or worse. The ECU is what controls the multi-injection system. Faults with the injectors themselves are very, very rare. I'd find another garage. If you're lucky there will be an independent FIAT/Lancia/Alfa specialist in the area. Failing that, print out the FAQ/Guide on ECU testing and take that to another garage.

Thanks, really appreciate your help. They mugged me off with it to be honest.

Anyway, with the ecu, I have been reading up on it tonight and people have mixed opinions. From your point of view, would I be able to buy one from say ebay and fit it? A few people have said it would need specifically programming to my car.

The trouble is that I have spent a fortune on the car recently so can't justify the ecu through garage prices really

The code (for the immobilser) is the issue.

You might like to ring these folk.

Actually removing and refitting the ECU is a pretty easy DIY job.

ECU change isn't just easy - it takes the **** a todler could do it :)

Just need a suitable fitting allen key IIRC
and to undone 2x Wiring clips :)

And as said injector failure is rare, but you can check the resistance of the injectors, to see if there is a dead injector or a failing one anyway
