I have just got a fiat punto 2004 1.2 petrol car and randomly the fuel injection warning light flashes for 10-15 seconds then goes off. it normally happens after long journeys. I checked the handbook and it states that its not a problem if it just flashes then goes off, but im still worried.

Should I be concerned or is everything okay? Ive never had this problem with any other cars and I am complete newbie with it all so any advice or tips would be fab!.

ALSO - car doesnt drive any differently when it flashes on that i have noticed

light flashing means missfire
ot means fuel.going straight into cat

get it sorted before it kills the cat off

oh god, sounds bad! whats the average cost do you know?

You have to work out why it's misfiring first.

Check leads first. They're cheaper than coils or ECUs and easy DIY.

Find out whats not firing

A spark plug or a HT

or a coil pack

They are all easy DIY bits to change

By substitution as it's an intermittent fault. OTTOMH, leads are cheapest, followed by plugs, followed by coil.

There's a big gap to the next item -- the manicat.

have you seen it then?
this would cause all kinds of issues as well

siansian91 if your car hasnt been regularly serviced then its quite possible its still on factory ht leads and plugs so treat these to a change as everyone has pointed out rather than saving a penny to spend a pound on a blown ecu next week

be careful with plug 3rd from left as its easy to crossthread it on replacement (dont ask)

Use fingers until you've got about 5 threads on (5 turns) then fingers and socket. Finally, tighten with socket.
