Hi,

I bought a 2001 Punto MK2 1.2l the other day as my first car . Its done 110k miles. I'm not entirely sure when the timing belt was last changed so I'm going to do it anyway.

Is it easy to fit yourself as I don't want to be forking out hundreds to get it taken to a garage.

Thanks,
Henry

HI,if you check the "guides" section here, there is an article about how to change the cambelt/tensioner on an 8 valve model.
If your car is 16 valve model you have to be careful to get timing correct, because if its not the piston will hit the valves.
The 8 valve engine is non interference,so lets say if the cambelt snappes well theres no engine damage.
You might be better off checking some garages for quotes, you should buy cambelt, tensioner, and waterpump yourself around 85 pounds, then get some quotes to fit,you are always better off to change waterpump when doing the belt,
tony

A good garage will also include a warranty on the fitting and the belt, may cost a little extra but well worth the peace of mind:
