hi,

just wondering if i can remove the front end bumper, bonnet, slam panel, radiator and roll me engine straight out or is it not possible on the punto??

the only way iv taken a punto engine out before was lifting it out of the bonnet not rolling it out so just curious as i obvs dont have a engine crane at home

Never tried it on a Punto, but I'm pretty sure the slam panel is welded in place, which would make it a pretty silly way of doing it. ;)

It is possible to lower the engine onto supports (supports with wheels would help) and then lift the car off the engine, but the only sensible way to proceed is with a crane.

They're cheap to hire.....................

put it high up on axle stands and there is plenty of room to bring it down and out the front with out removing bumper/rad or any thing.

you dont even need a crane, plenty of people just lower them on a trolley jack with help of someone stopping it tipping off

sounds like best option tbh

i havnt the room in the garage to get a crane to lift it out tbh and i aint doing it outside in the drive as then itll block everything lol il put the gearbox on a stand and drop engine alone through bottom

I'd be inclined to drop the engine and box as a unit -- makes it much easier. You can dissassemble on the ground, and re-assemble before you put it back. At least one of the Cento people drops the engine and box for clutch changes.

Imo make it harder to refit to mountings because im goin to have to balance the weight of both on a trolley jack to raise it up...engine is much more managable on its own imo plus there's no awkward bellhousing bolts on the punto

Im not breakin it im swaping engines lol

Il throw it under the car and drag it out...I just can't see how I would get one back in tho...unless I tight summat to engine and pull it up thru the bonnet using the garage roof to lever it on

you need two mates and a scaffold pole to lift it up whilst you place a trolley jack underneath it then they can steady it as you jack it into position, make sure the gearbox is on too mind

No, the crossmember doesn't detach. Hike the car up and slide the engine under it, easiest way round that (y)

So your sayin I could pull the engine from under the car and fit the new one with everything attached without breaking the inlet ect... As I plan on dripping the engine in as a whole mot wanting to be bolting part are afterwards..as the new inlet with extra injectors is a pain to fit correctly without vacuum leaks as the secondary fuel rail comes in the way

they are perfect for out the bottom ... with good axle stands ,,,, and a tall trolley jack piece of thick wood ... couple of mates at end stages ...

undo loom at fuse box and battery leads two plugs i think follow loom from engine into your under bonnet fuse box ( very easy ) just un-plug ..... take battery out and carrier off ( the tray ) x3 13mm bolts .....

x2 10mm bolts and sping clip ....... air box off

disconect exhaust at front to middle section then when on floor it stands up on its own ..( if you leave it connected to head ...this helps on floor ) x2 12mm or 13mm if had new bolts ... take time because these snap dead easy .. wd 40 ...
tigh it up out of way as it will dingle dangle .... (middle section ...

before putting on floor while in car disconect all the under neath gearbox bolts ... 10mm for **** shield .. 15mm 17mm 18mm 19mm may need two spanners of each
easier than when its on floor ( dirt shield off ... ..... drop hubs and pull shafts out and leave the gearbox drive shaft cups in box ..(doing it this way you have no oil loss out of gearbox ) ( the inner cv boot will pop off shaft when you remove the boot clips ..
stretch two rubber gloves over inner cv;s on the end of shafts ....... less mess ...

water hoses .... rad top and bottom hose .... and matrix hoses x2

throttle cable comes off by turning butterfly and unhook it ...

fuel pipe .... special pliers ....

disconect gear linkage by putting 15 spanner under the x2 ball sockets and flick them off .... then you will see x3 13mm bolts that hold the linkage bracket on gear box /..... then tie it up to brake pipes on bulk head ... cable tighs ... and disconect clutch slave cylinder on top of gearbox x2 13mm bolts and swing this down near rad ... undo the gear box earth strap .. you will see it when this is off ...
disconect the reverse switch wires on front of gearbox . ...

speedo wires on rear of gearbox ... ( some dont have these ) just a blank ...

vacum pipe off at maniold by squeeze in the clip with fingers while pushing inwards

when you undo the rear steady bar the engine and gearbox will swing on the gearbox mount and the engine mount ..... this is safe ....

place jack under sump with good piece of wood and take the weight checking that i have not missed nothing .....

undo the 19mm top gear box mount bolt .... but only with jack in place ....

then undo the x3 or x4 engine mount nuts 15 mm ... near top timing cover ..
take your 17mm socket and remove the x3 inner wing mount nuts ...........

get a friend to say grace ... no hold the engne and lift off mount and lower jack ....checking at all times there is nothing still conected .....

doing it this way the starter ... loom ....... every thing drops as a full unit

when on floor disconect starter bolt x3 13mm two at rear of starter and one on top of box ...... and top and side gearbox bolts

x1 nut 18mm or 19mm next to starter at rear and the box slides off ....

x2 18mm top bolts .......

hope this helps ...

i do two of these a week .... but on a ramp ... takes me two hours ... taking time ..

when lowering jack slowly move the jack slightly forward to clear exhaust at rear when lowering ........

swap everything from old engine to new one ,,,,,, and reverse the out distructions ..

remember you need an engines worth of height with your front bumper still on to slide it from under neath ......

no body panels removed ..... as you have a front cross meber (welded in ... )
leave bonnet on ... nothing off panel wise ///

GOOD LUCK MUCKER ...... :slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer::slayer:

Haha cheers bud :D yeh iv taken a punto engine out at work in an hour but that's with a crane :) I usually leave the box on a stand and just pull engine out of bonnet...but like I say the punto is currently in a garage parked up and can't get a crane in lol

The other engine is complete all auxiliary on new engine when I finish rebuilding...got another loom for it aswel which im working me wiring for turbo into so il remove loom with engine mate

Thanks for clearing up it will defo go under the punto :) give me half hour il whip it out ;)

You don't need to go that high either. Doing it again I'd take the bonnet off to give more room
