First off, fantastic forum, proper impressed with attention to detail! Any way to the point.

My old man has just got hold of a mk 2 punto with the 1.2 8v engine. Last night he was driving along and lost all power. Had a look this morning and by joe its running very rough. struggles to start and when it does its seriously lumpy as if running on a couple of cylinders. If you rev it slightly it splutters and dies but if you kinda of pump the pedal a few times and get it running it proper chugs.

So, i replaced the plugs, leads and that didnt work. Got hold of a brand new coil and tested it on both sides (didnt spot the easy way on hear until afterwards) and again, didnt work, still the same running issues with no improvement whatsoever.

After a few calls it was suggested a injector failure is the most likely cause. This is where my skills get a wee bit thin.

How, if at all, can i test the injectors????

Any other ideas are more than welcome. Ive seen the thread about redX, could it really be that simple???

Many thanks for reading and many MANY thanks in advance for and help you guys give!!!!

Dave

I think it's unlikely to be the injectors. You can't do a lot except make sure they squirt.

Take a look at the ECU tests here and try and determine (you can do it with your finger if you start the enginer from cold, just by touching the manifold right at the top) which cylinders are not firing.

Get back.

If the misfiring is totally random its going to most likely the Crank sensor failing

The Crank has a Pulley on it - with a flat spot
When the flat spot goes past the Crank Sensor the car knows when to fire the spark plugs

the sensor fails and the cars essentially Runs blind = Misfire

Check each cyclinder one by 1 to make sure its actually sparking as well
both coils could be shot?
Is the Engine Management light on at all? if so - downlaod the free Fiat Ecu Scan and get a cheap cable off ebay and put the car on the diagnostic and find out whats going on

Right chaps. Thanks for advice!

I've established that cylinders 1 & 4 are the culprit. So with everything else being changed i'm gonna have to go with the ECU failing?!?! Would you agree folks?!?!

Next question would be where or who can you recommend for a ECU repair or replacement?!?!?

Many Thanks again chaps, very helpful indeed.

Sorry ziggy, im getting all confused here. Just double checked, it IS 1 & 4. The 2 cylinders on the left, that arent firing. I was right first time round!!! Been a long weekend

Right chaps. As above its cylinders 1 & 4 and im going with ECU. There are some on ebay i can see and am about to phone some companys ive found on the net. However, we have a fiat specialist breaker down the road, lucky me, but they are telling me i need to replace keys and everything yet others are saying you can just plug them in! Does anyone actually know the right answer?

Cheers folks, Hope youve had a better day then me :(

Thanks Dave. I got hold of a company who put me right. Called camco, had new ones on the shelf for £217 + p+p  Then found a good one on ebay, send it in to him and he fixes it. £90. What a fafe!!:bang:
