Hi all,

Need your expert advice here,
my 2003 1.2 punto's dash is displaying oil level/pressure indicator when the engine is turned off! when it is on and running it goes off. dipstick level seems to be allright.
it occured 4 days back and I am not bothered to take it to garage and using it regularly.

Any suggestion what could be wrong? and can i fix it by myself if yes then plz advice me how

Thanks in advance
pkat

its the software in the ECU crashing on shut off

Mine used to leave the light on - and hold the engine temperature on as well

When i switch back on - both disappeared

Only thing to try is leaving the battery disconnected overnight
Give the Internals of the entire car to discharge and "blank" sort of overnight

Its when your driving and the light comes on you need to worry

Thanks ziggy, shall give it a try tonight.
Also is it that the oil level or pressure indicator?

any other expert who has faced similar problems? are most welcome for suggestions..

I'm no expert but also check and clean the connections to the sensor. Chances are the ECU acts when it goes open circuit so a wiring fault can light the light.

If the coolant temperature sensor goes open cct the ecu will hold the fault lamp lit for the next three or four cycles after the wiring is fixed. Might be the same for the oil , and if there is a wiring/connector problem the ecu could be resetting to zero each time there is a break detected in the cct.
