Bloody rust, i thought bodywork was fully galvanised at this point, looks like they missed a bit!

It's the only rust I have on the car and would like to get it treated soon, is this something that could be done easily myself? It looks to be in an awkward spot to sand down, is there anything you can get that eats away the rust which i could just apply and wipe of and then treat? Thanks!

Ideally you want to dismantle the lock & take it back to bare metal. Treat the prepared metal with anti rust paint then undercoat then colour paint & lacquer. Use a hair drier before & in between coats, this helps to keep moisture at bay.

Your rust doesn't look too bad so easy job.(y)

Easiest thing is probably swap the tailgate with one the same colour.

I'll second that. Find one being broke locally, check its condition and swap it. Doubt it will cost more than £40, but it could look like new. Your's looks like it's been painted before - avoid that if you can as you never know what is underneath.

It could have been replaced after a shunt and not painted properly or the lock got screw-drivered and ripped the paint. The rust will return so replace the door from a breakers and repaint it to suit.
