Mk2 1.2 8valve Y Reg, when i turn my steering my headlights go dim, and when i switch on my rear screen heater, dash board lights go dim, i replaced alternator belt as it was badly worn, would this problem be caused by dodgy battery or alternator, advice greatfully received

got a multimeter?
check the output on the battery with the headlights on and then off

pretty much certain its the battery. best buy an upgraded battery if u do. maybe get it stress tested before hand though incase its just in need of a good charge.

Does the ignition light come on at pos 1 and go off after starting?

Weak battery is a possibilty, as is weak alternator and dodgy earth.

yes it goes off when started, some times when i start car, it turns over slow then all of a sudden it turns over normal then fires up, the lights go really dim on dash al so headlights if i put on rear screen heater, and engine tick over drops change

Sounds like an earth issue.

Remove, clean, abrade and refit tightly, covering with grease when done.There is no such thing as 'too many earths', so if in doubt lay in extras.
