Right, Ive owned my Mk2 punto for about 3 months now, and I havnt had a single hitch. One thing I noticed a few times however, is that very occasionally, usually when going around a roundabout, the brake warning light would come on, but then disappear quickly. So it was just a flash for a couple of seconds.
Today however, it came on as I was driving and stayed on.
I got home and parked up.
Ive let the engine cool down and Ive restarted it, but the light stays on.
Im assuming Im just low on brake fluid.
How serious is this? I ask because my dad is friends with a mobile mechanic who can get it fixed quickly, however I have work tommorow morning.
Will I be safe to drive there? Its only a couple of miles and its all 30mph roads, But I dont trust my judgement on this one.

Oh and on a side note, can someone enlighten me on how brake fluid levels drop? Its a closed system, and the fluid isnt really consumed.
Is it just boiled off over time? Or used to cool things?

Check that the fluid level is above min and don't worry about it too much. If the level is nearer to the max and it is still doing it, you could have a faulty level sensor. My girlfriend had this fault, so it isn't unknown. The trick is to disconnect the handbrake warning sensor and drive around for a while to see if it happens. Then reconnect the handbrake switch and disconnect the level sender switcch using the connection below the brake fluid reservoir, and again, observe whether it happens. That will tell you where the fault lies.

Some cars also have wear sensors in the brake pads. When the pads have worn down, these should light when the brakes are used. The snag is the pads often dont wear evenly so they are not reliable. But, check the brake pad wear anyways - both pads on each disc.
