Hi

Our 97 Punto hasnt been driven for a couple of months due to us being away. It wouldn't start and was only making a very slow turning over noise.

Today bought a brand New battery but still the same.

There is 1/2 tank of fuel so thats fine but it just sounds like a Dead battery despite the battery being brand new and tested ok???

Im confused.com

Please help as running outt of ideas??

Thanks

Lee

incidentally

Tried to jump it off my Jaguar X Type Diesel with a Ma-HOO-sive battery and still the same????

Took the battery back to the store and it was faulty - replaced it with another checked it all ok and guess what - same problem :(

Really stuck Boooo :(

Is the engine turning over briskly as it should but not starting or slowly as tho the battery is flat? If the latter then you have a high-resistant connection somewhere and need to take apart and clean the battery lead to starter motor and battery lead to earth (body) and the one from the body to the engine (can't remember where it is just now). Will it start with a tow?

i ad this problem as well, i tried bump startin and it started but nxt day it does same thing so looks like i myt try this clleanin the battery leads etc

Red lead from battery to starter, black lead from battery to gearbox, under clutch slave cylinder (under battery tray).

OP implied that car was OK until not used for a couple of months so more likely to be poor connection. However, if all connections are sound and the battery is good, then it only really leaves the starter, unless of course the engine is tight for some reason. Could take plugs out and see if it spins like a good 'un.

did you say the first battery tested okay then after being connected to your car and tried a few times you took it back and it tested faulty?

that would indicate somethign is killing the battery had the alternator tested?
