:bang:

It finally came, after ordering it on the 16th March, DHL losing it, FK not being able to find my order to resend it and arguing with a German bloke over the phone, it finally arrived this morning.

But it doesn't fit

The bonnet catch (the metal rod in the middle).................

.....................doesn't allow the grille to sit in the recess, it won't fit in the grooves in the back (if you look carefully you can see a scratch in the middle where the bonet catch is rubbing the back of it).........................

.......................Which means the closest I can get the grille to sit flush is this.....................

So how do I get the grille to fit? I can't cut a recess in the back of the grille to accomodate the bonnet catch, but I can't move that end of the bonnet catch as its welded in place.......how do these things EVER fit in?

im guessing you have got a mk2 because i have a mk2b and it fits fine... which one did you order??? the punto (188) or punto (176)... don't know if that has anything to do with it but i got the 188... also it says its only 2003 onwards... what year is yours??

Sorry if this sounds offensive but I've had a bad day......

.....I'm not stupid!

I ordered the Punto (188) grille for the Punto 03>07

I drive a 1.2 16v punto mk2b Active Sport on a 53 plate.

Its the right grille

As I said, my problem is how do I move the bonnet catch out of the way to allow the grille to fit flush? Judging by the welding I would say it was previously broken and is not now in its origional place.

Has anyone got any ideas on how this can be resolved :bang:

You could use an angle grinder to grind off the welds, mark where it should go and have it rewelded. (Paint all bare metal to prevent rust.)

Alternatively, you could trim some of the plastic on the back of the grille to allow it to clear the catch. Then paint the catch flat black so it doesn't show through the grille.

Was thinking to break the weld, and bend the rod back through the hole underneath it (seen in pic)

That hole's only used for the badge, which is no longer necessary.

As for cutting the grille, thats my last resort, don't really want to do that as it will look tacky.

What about grinding as much of the catch as you can? if you grind the top of it flat (And not the welds.) you may be able to remove enough to allow the grill to fit, but without affecting the catch and its strength/functionality.
