Hi there, this is the problem i have, i've got a 2002 punto HGT which has a knackered battery which is under warranty, took it to the shop he tested the car and said it was over charging @ 14v at 3000 rpm with every electical thing on in the car. So he said that this "over chaging" has knackered the battery making it my fault, but he was good and offered me a new one for 33 quid...

So does anyone know if 14v is over charging?

Does anyone know the charging range of the alternator?

Cheers in advance :slayer:

The bloke who tested it at idle with no lights on said it was constant.. didn't tell me the voltage.... i think i'll have to find my multi meter :(

Alternator should charge between 13.7v and 14.3v.

Would be a bit stupid if he said your alternator had ruined the battery but he'll sell you a new battery without fixing the alledged alternator fault first.

Dave.

Cheers Davren, of course he'll sell me a new one, didn't offer me a price on a new alternator tho... is this writen down anywhere? so i can take it and shove it up his A*S* and get my new battery for free?

Well with the information gained a went armed to the shop, and they crumpled and gave me a new battery....

Cheers Guys for the help (y)
