Hi!
I have a '94 Fiat Punto (1.7 Td SX). I submitted her for a pre-MOT as I was worried that there would be alot of work and that she would fail....she did! I was told that the only thing that could possibly cause a problem would be the load sensing valves. Foolishly now I see I didn't ask enough questions about this as I am trying to source the parts and realising I don't have enough information to check that I am going to get the right parts.
Firstly I spent the day yesterday (in the snow - very foolish) underneath the car trying to locate these and failed miserably! Can anyone give me any guidance as to where they might be hiding?
Secondly I am presuming that there are two, one for each side, but this is not a fact I have found anywhere. But if there are two are they specific to the side of the car and therefore I have to make sure that I get a left handed and right handed one?
Any help in these matters would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Sian

For those of you that don't have the 1.7TD or GT a 'load proportioning valve' may sound Greek to you, since these models son't have them. For those that have them, they probably know that they are notorious for seizing up. Their purpose is to increase the braking force to the rear of the car when the rear suspension is more compressed (i.e. heavy at the back).

As for where they are found, they are mounted at the top of the subframe, above the trailing arms (one per side) and have two metal pipes going into the face of them. There should also be a linkage between the trailing arm and this proportioning valve.
