Hello all,

Am after your help. I am the owner of a 1.3 Multijet Punto Mk 2b and am suffering a wet passenger footwell.

This was initially noticied in the summer when used the air conditioning quite a bit.

Now that winter is here, no need ofr aircon and the problem doesn't seem so bad - been trying to find the root cause of the problem.

So far

1) Not water ingress from blocked drain holes on the black bit under the windscreen wipers (Have had so much rain here last couple of weeks, but they are all clear.)

2) Pretty sure not a failed heater matrix as the leaked water doesn't smell / taste sweet / antifreeze smell....

3) So I am thinking something wrong with the aircon........... I guess when it works, condensation forms on the aircon unit and instead of channelling away under the car, somehow it's coming in?

Apparant entry place is top front of passenger footwell - towards the middle of the car (i.e. sort of behind the heather controls -but between the metal bulkhead and the carpet.

Been up to the local Fiat guy a couple of times, who has had a look, but between us we cannot trace the source.

Would be grateful if anyone on here has had a similar problem, and if so, whats the cause, but more importantly, whats the solution? Also, how can we replicate in the workshop to see the cause?

Thanks

Lynton

Cheers,

Have no idea what the a/c bit looks like - but obviously Mick (The Fiat Specialist Mechanic will) - I assume various hoses / pipes into / out of and any of these could be blocked?

Is there some kind of drainage bit on the A/C that could be blocked?

check window seals, sunroof seals (if its got one) also check the seals around the lights, they are known to perish over time

i remember we had a ducato van with the aircon making condensation..we got some special foam to put around the pipes so it couldnt get cold air to it

In my Fiat Linea, the a/c drain pipe/tube is located within the panel on the left side of the clutch pedal. I hope, the same case with Punto also because Linea and Punto are full siblings! Open the panel and examine the drain pipe. If it is disconnected, please connect it securely. The condensation drips from the disconnected joint, mostly. Otherwise, it could also be due to blockage in the pipe. Please see for dripping of condensed water from the drain outlet located behind the engine bay, when you reach home/office. There should be a small pool of condensed water on the floor. The absence of this small pool of water indicates either blockage or improper connection. To clear the blockage, open the connection and clean the pipe with compressed air. I had the same problem due to disconnection of drain pipe. The mechanic at my dealership identified the problem, cleaned the pipe with compressed air and connected the drain pipe securely, all in half hour.
