Thought I had better write down my experience so that others may learn. My 55s Punto started playing up recently, the immobiliser just wouldn't deactivate unless I pushed the key in really hard before turning. It had me baffled.

Then I realised that when I sorted my keyring out earlier on, I had put my main key and passenger door key next to each other on the keyring - the antenna was picking up both keys and getting thoroughly confused. I moved the key to the far end of the keyring and it's fine again.

So, if you have more than one Punto, or more than one key for it (say after a replacement lock), just be aware that it can sometimes confuse your immobiliser if they are on the same ring.

Hope that saves someone a trip to the diagnostics computer...
