Hey guys, i have a fiat punto 55 EL mk 1. I've had this car for afew months now and all has been good until new years eve, after i finished work i was driving home and only managed to get 3 miles when suddenly the engine cut out. i called out the RAC and they wer'nt really helpful he just sprayed some easy start or somethin flamable i guess down the air intake and it started but when he stopped sprayin the car cut out again. so i've been reading through some posts to see what i could do, so far i've checked all the fuses, pressed that fuel reset switch near the passenger seat, changed the plugs and it still won't start. the prime light comes on for afew seconds then goes off just as normal, the engine is turnin over just not runnin if that makes sense?
any ideas would be good.
thanks
tony

There are a number of probable causes, is your fuel fresh and your fuel gauge working?

Another is that the valves are shot and not providing adequet fuel or the plugs/coil pack are malfunctioning (I doubt it's the plugs having changed them, have you checked they are producing sparks and in the right sequence)

It might even be to do with timing:confused:

hey, yea i filled my tank 2 days before all this happened so i guess my gauge is working.
would it be possible for the valves to have gone on a mid drive?
they are all producin a good spark and doubt it would be the timing with it bein a mid drive, and that it starts with that easy start gettin sprayed into the carb.
many thanks tony

This could be the answer I'm searching for with my problem...

I have checked sparks, plugs, compressions, timing, coils and battery all to no avail.
My car turns but refuses to start and I have done pretty much all the checks I possibly can except this spraying starting fluid into the air intake.

You say it was the fuel pump but what exactly was the cause. And does it matter that I've had this petrol sitting in the tank since early October now?

Please help, I'm practically pulling my hair out with this one.
