I know there are threads on similar problems, but I need to explain mine, please.
  1. I'v had the cylinder head skimmed.
  2. the head gasket renewed
  3. a new water pump
  4. a new timing belt
For a week or two after everything was fine, plenty of heat, but now we are misting up, heater somtimes blowing cold, warm, then hot, but mainly just warm, also I notice the temp gauge go up to 3/4.
Can someone give me advice on what could be wrong please?

just one point though, how does the fan coming in/on effect the heater inside the car? thanks

The simplest explanation is that if the radiator or thermostat gets hot enough the heater matrix can become locked off by some of the thermodynamic properties of the coolant, it's happened to me once (due to low coolant levels and the engine heating too quickly for the rad fan to have any meaningful effect on the fluid temperatures)

I suspect the steamy windows is a big clue that the heater matrix or pipes into it are leaking. Leaking coolant = steam. If there is the correct coolant in the system there wont be any doubt - it smells - like coolant.

But if there is any doubt about an air bubble in the cooling system dont drive until its sorted or you will be looking at another head gasket.

BTW, did you get the head crack tested after the original gasket failed?
