Hi Guys,

New to the forum, so hope you can help! he gear knob on the wifes car is really loose and keeps coming off, not good when driving!!

Where can I get a replacement one? Do Halfords do anything?

When I pull the old one off, the stick has spindle type bit left sticking up and in inspection of the inside of the knob, the collar that I assume grips the spindle is broken.

Any help would really be appreciated.

I have replaced my gear knob with a richbrook one like the one below off ebay that comes with an alan key to 'clamp' it on the gear stick.

(p.s. when you buy one make sure it is lift reverse compatible and that the reverse is on the bottom right of the gear knob - which the one above is)

....assuming you have a lift reverse gearbox and not a standard one obviously.

Is very common for them to come off. If you would rather keep your original one than go after market, then you can use some Epoxy glue and it will never come off again. Just spread it on the inside of the gear knob and then give it a whack on. Let it try and your done.

Places like halfords have a wide selection of gear knobs, as do places like e-bay.

If this is a Mk1 Punto (push down to select reverse), I found that hot glue sorted it all out. The glue gun has to be properly heated up (I like a lot of glue) and then just drop it into the gearknob (which should, incidentally, be attached to the gaiter but it probably doesn't matter if it's not). Then push the knob on quickly (getting it straight) and, problem solved

I had the same issue with my MK2 after my dad borrowed the car for the morning
Managed to find another gear knob with adapters to fit but it doesnt sit on a nicely as id hoped

If anyone can recomend one that they have id appreciate it

That looks pretty nice, might have to swap that for mine
Its a cheap crappy one. doesnt sit tightly enough so it could pull of again like the standard one did
