I've spoken to two mechanics about my cars on/off acceleration. They have both suggested I clean the throttle body with a carb cleaner. I notice that this has never been mentioned as possible fix to erratic idling/acceleration. Anybody cleaned their's and noticed any difference?

That´s usually one of the first thing you should do. Yes the difference is noticiable, faster responce, smoother accelaration etc...
