I have a Fiat Punto MkII, 02 plate, sporting speedgear (auto). When the car is left for a long period of time, just overnight for example I have trouble starting it in the morning. I have had my battery tested twice and it is fine. I have also had the alternator replaced. The engine turns over, but seems to be very weak and the lights come on. If I keep the key turned for too long and do it too often, the engine just seems to die. I have to repeatedly push the accelerator to get it started. This does not always work, and may need a jump start (in which i am confused because this is just giving extra power to a battery that works fine?). If I have been using the car throughtout the day, it will start fine. But as I say, it is only when it is not used for 7+ hours I have huge trouble starting it. I am mystified! Please help! .. Thanks.

I thought the coolant temp sensor failed to start the car when it thought the car was perhaps too hot?

I am having the same problem at the moment. I did have a sub in mine and thought that was draining the battery so i fitted a switch and this didnt do anthing leave it for one day and its dead. Since I've taken the head unit and everything out it has been better but its still doesnt hold for too long and ive had all mine tested. They even looked at my alernater!

That's what happened to mine. Lights coming on then gradulally fading/dying if I kept trying to start it. If I left mine for one day or even less it wouldn't start. I had my battery tested as well and was told it was ok. (That was after driving it a few miles to the garage and leaving it 15 mins though)

I replaced the battery and haven't had any problems since.

What battery did you buy for the car? I know there is a performance battery place that ive been told to buy a battery from I'll have to dig up the web addy, but I never got round to it coz someone decided to try and write my car off! :( Nearly fixed though :p

I got the Halfords one. I think the calcum type. It's the one up from the bog standard anyway. I know people slate them but I haven't had any problems with it so far.
