Technical punto mk2 code 2 roling code keys please read

right im confused here, my latest punto a 53plate 1.2 8v
should have a 48 MG/CR key however ive got a Silca GT15RBT5 which is a T5 id 13.
silca book says this key is not for punto but for tempra and seicento.
also this key comes out as copy yes via The silca machines (wont name but common knowledge).
so if my car is run using a fixed code key whats happened to make this possible?

I'm unaware of any immo bypass for the 8V except placing the correct id48 around the steering column

You mean the silca book says that key is id13 and you've not actually test it?? you'll probably find out it maybe that type of key but with a id48 in.

problem solved just stripped the key down the t5 chip had been replaced witha 48 mc/cr never mind
it really baffled me as a locksmith lol
i may just buy a chinese lockset and key code for the car i guess of get the eprom lifted to read the pin code

can a mod please make this a stiky i comes up so many times a week

a mk2 punto should come with 2 blue keys if not beat the seller down buy 100 quid

Either 2 non remote keys or one may be a remote key depending on trim level

these keys are roiling code as such the code stored on the key is mathematically changed by the car every time the key is used in the ignition

fiat can program anything from 1 to 8 keys to your car without the need for any of the original keys(like for example if you lost them all fiat can still rescue your car) these keys can be all remote non remote or any mix of keys you fancy

if you lose your only key don't try and break into your car as the keys come ready cut from fiat and can be used to open the car then it can be toed to garage and new keys programed'

some dealers will even come to you with the equipment needed to fix your car

now here's the main reason i wrote this threat

i see this asked to many times on here "can Timsons and such make a key for my car and program it yada yada"

simple answer no no one but fiat can program keys to your car no matter what they say they simply can't

i believe there are some places that can make an identical copy of a key you have but as i have said it's roiling code so as soon as you use the copy it will stop the original key from working and render it useless from then on

but even this is a little far fetched as i don't think any company's have made keys with reprogrammable memory and even if they can due to the problem i have outlined above they would be no market for them anyway

a few more facts about these keys

only fiat equipment can program the keys to your car so it's gona be a visit to the dealer either way

keys that are ordered for a car can be programed to that car only and cannot be fitted to any other car so if you start mixing lock sets or body computers about it's not gona work

all keys need to be present when new keys are being programed to the car otherwise they will be lost from the car's memory and will be rendered useless even fiat cant reprogram them after this happens as they're not new any more ie the rolling code has been changed many times and the car will not accept them

bit like when you take a baby rabbit from it's mother it wont want it back it will simply kill it

when ordering keys from dealer you will need proof of ownership like v5 document and some id probably not sure exactly what but dealer will tell you

you will also need to produce your code card if you have it many British cars don't as they are taken out at bristal buy fiat uk due to British insurance laws stupid if you ask me as no one can use it to steal your car anyway unless they have a blank copy of your key and know the emergency start-up prosedure these cards cost 10 pound so expect the bill to be 10 quid more expensive

i have seen some quotes on here of 130 for one non remote key this is quite frankly a rip off so shop around a bit play dealers off against each other

one not remote iirc should be about 84 quid all in programed an all

now could some people that have had these keys programed to there cars please give a better idea of what they should cost obviously remote keys are more expensive than non remote

so please specify what exactly you had done and how much it cost you thanks

please note the above is also true for any fiat fitted with code 2 keys and imobiliser
I have just bought a 2007 fiat Panda multijet. Does this car have the code 2 rolling key code system? I only got one key from the dealer the day I collected car. How I wish I had asked how many keys came with car before I chose to buy it!

It seems Fiat have developed a terribly complicated system! Do other car manufacturers uses such a horrendously complicated key code system? I've had VW cars and Mercedes and the keys are far far simpler. Even the key and immobiliser section in the respective handbooks for VW and Merc is simple, unlike in the Fiat Handbook which is quite scary.

It suggests using the code card and pushing down gas pedal until engine light flashes several times etc then comparing the number of flashes with the code and repeat this for each digit of code for emergency start up! More like something from Crystal maze or Krypton Factor!

They very point that only Fiat seem to provide a code card implies that their keys are prone to failure.

I bought the Panda because of its excellent fuel economy and low tax of £30 a year. But it seems any savings I make on running costs will be written off when I get bills to reprogram the keys or immobiliser! Firstly the cost of getting my one and only key copied at Timpsons £55 so that's the cheap road tax saving snubbed out and then more.

To be honest I've never seen such a scary complex system in any other other make of modern car and I seriously regret getting my Panda. Why does Fiat make it so complicated?

A number of points to address,

1 fiat keys are not prone to failure, they have the emergency start procedure so you can start the car in an emergency and get it to the dealer for repair, for instance if someone tried to steal the car and damaged the coils that pick up the code from the key or the keys chip becomes damaged through being run over for instance.

Your £55 spent at timpsons is not only still far cheaper than the next highest car tax band but as timpsons only clone the key you have and they don't program it into the car (the correct procedure for making a new key) its likely your timpsons copy will fail at some point when it loses sync with the car ecu, the properly programmed keys keep sync

As for scary complex systems, well it's actually very good making it incredibly hard to steel a fiat car with this system, but gives you a way to get it to repair if the worst should happen.

The other manufactures you mention have ways and means of simply ordering a new key already coded to you car that means no access to the car is needed, in addition they provide no way to get your car home in an emergency. Its also worth noting that even paying £200-300 from a fiat dealer for a key is still far cheaper than you will ever get a key from the likes of Mercedes

There is nothing scary about the system all cars these days will use something similar and costly the idea is to keep your car safe, as you pointed out the real issue is you didn't check to see how many keys there were when you bought the car.

it makes your insurance cheaper as its complicated for car thieves too:rolleyes:

a lot off good locksmiths now have the kit to make code2 keys. have a look in the traders section on here. it is unlikely Timpsons can make a working code 2 key
