I'm probably gonna buy a mk 1 punto what sort of things do I need to look out for if I'm buying one second hand. For example I know with cinquecentos its a good idea to make sure the head gasket has been done etc. Do you need to look out for anything like this on the punto?

Cheers

Matt

Not so much the head gasket on the Punto although a new one is handy, new cambelt after 60k and rear suspension arms, although you need to jack the car up to check them.
Remember 1 red key and 2 blues.

I have a 1.6 sporting for sale.

I would be weary of any car which has had the head gasket replaced. Just make sure you have someone who knows plenty about cars with you. Try and get one with a full service history. Buy yourself a parkers guide, this has plenty of tips on the basics to look for and guide prices. Good luck.

Punto sumps tend to rust through, check for bodged repair or leaks.
If the head gasket has been done, make sure it was by someone who knows about Fiats, and skimmed the head.
If you buy an SX, check all the electrics, windows, airbag sensors etc.
A good service history, detailing when the belts and fluids have been replaced. Make sure the brake and coolant fluid has been replaced in the last two years.
Emissions are important. A new cat can be expensive. Check the last MOT sheet.
Happy hunting.
