Hi all,

Thinking of changing all the bulbs on my Punto Evo to LEDs.

Has anyone encountered any issues?

I’ve seen online some can have errors.

I have fitted LEDs to past owned models....2005 Panda,2006 IDEA........and my current car
Chrysler DELTA.
The usual bulb was the front side lights, these were of the CANBUS 501/W5W types....
In most cases I did not get errors on the body computer.........but a couple I fitted to my wife's 2006 PUNTO has caused the "bulb failure light" to show, but we just ignore it...
I have fitted most of the bulbs in my 1996 CINQE to LEDS ,with no problems, as there is no computer to detect a fault.

Hi,
The are no approved LED replacements of exterior filament lamps. This means if you replace the bulbs in any external lights (except possibly the reversing light) you car is illegal for use on the road. It will invalidate your insurance too. This is a catch 22, don't tell them and it's an undeclared modification, do tell them and you have admitted to illegal lighting.

So this would affect the MOT right?

:yeahthat:

The MOT is not a car approval check, its just specifc safety and emissions items. Passing an MOT with LEDs fitted does not validate them or make them legal. Unless the colour is wrong or the headlight patten is wrong they are not a reason for refusal of an MOT but a diligent MOT inspector will give an advisory for them.

Potentially the lights will probably have an incorrect beam Patten

Just depends on if they actually check to beam pattern during the test a lot of places don't do it

I’m not actually going to change the Main lights. Just the indicators/DRL and brake lights

The main and dipped beam bulbs H4,H7 etc I would not change as LEDs of that type are unproven....
In fact ,as I recall I also changed my number plate bulbs, interior , and front side lights on my 2000 year Marea way back when LEDs first showed up...
This is not a recommendation....and it has been pointed out that "technically" it is infringing the insurance policy, but I can't see Insurers turning down a claim on the basis of unapproved light bulbs......or am I being hugely unrealistic?
