On switching on the ignition on my multijet all the lights on the dash are on, then after a few seconds they all go out except for the engine, battery & oil lights. On turning over the engine all the lights go out.
I have not used the car for about a week but on starting this morning I couldn't rev the car over 2,500 rpm so I switched off & left it about two minutes & tried again.
Over about 10 minutes & 5 tries it eventually got to maximum revs.
Should the engine light go out before turning the engine over?
 
This may be related to a post about 'Multijet warm up' - I always let the preheater glow plug go out, then don't overrev until the eng. temp guage goes up somewhat, once it begins to rise, it does so fairly quickly. 2,500 rpm would have you moving well, i.e., the speed in 4th or 5th at 2,500 would have you moving about 50 to 60 MPH.

It may be that it needs the few mins. You don't sit and rev it do you ? Best advice is to move off almost straight away and allow the engine to curculate the oil - don't mind me, used to hear my dad give this advice years ago, now I find myself telling my kids this - guess that makes me an official 'Old Man' !
 
The sequence for your lights going out is perfectly normal, so there is no need to worry.

As for the revving, I'm not 100% sure but there is a chance the car has a rev-limiter set to it for when revving from idle and cold to make sure the engine does not get damaged. I assume you were sat revving it rather than driving and it won't go over 2500rpm.

Never, ever over-rev a cold engine as you are wrecking it. Lots.

Just as a caution to all, don't 'blib' the throttle when stopping; in an old car people needed to do this as it 'primed' the cylinders with petrol making a car easier to 'fire' up when started agaib, but on modern cars it serves no purpose and can, over time, wreck cylinder linings (on both diesel and petrol cars) (y)
 
No matter how long I leave it the engine light (EOBD) stays on until I turn the engine over. I'm not sure if the engine management has got damp or something similar.

The engine warning light will not go out until you turn the ignition on; it is, until you turn the engine over, telling you there is 'electrical power' (not to be confused with the alternator light which is telling you there is a net-drain from the battery) to the engine but the engine isn't turning.

Your Warning Lights are working as they should

I assume you have a multijet Doblo? The only think I can think is that some cars are different from engine-to-engine and I have noticed in my time that some of the engine warning lights 'time-out' after a few seconds of ignition; others don't (my mates old Astra certainly timed-out a few seconds after the ignition is turned). The Audi and smart both having warning lights that stay on until the ignition is turned regardless of how long you do it for; I can't remember what my old Punto JTD did.

I really, really wouldn't worry about it and just accept it for what it is. I would also say RTFM (y)

Be grateful the warning light turns off at all; this can be a miracle on some Fiats...
