I've a frequently sticking rear left caliper which is causing both disc/pad wear and noise; so it needs replacing - or rebuilding if it comes to that

The rear right stuck full a few years ago and I got a TRW BHQ284 replacement, which has been absolutely fine

The BHQ283 for the left is out of stock everywhere. Every website that claims its in stock ends up refunding me a few days later; and trying to offer the BHQ289 instead, which is the one recommended for the diesel and 4x4

So - are they actually the same caliper, with the 283 just being painted red? Because its not hard to get the appropriate paint and do it. I could also just go for another brand of replacement and paint them; as only TRW seem to have factory-coated ones.

There are apparently OEM ones in stock in Greece, but for some utterly silly money.

I bought the 289 and 290, they are the same as what I have on the car at the mo

From what I could find the 283 and 284 were just powdercoated versions of the 289 and 290

The link I posted is for trw part identical to a part supplied by Fiat dealer.

Sometimes the part numbers change or vendors slightly alter the part number for their own systems.

I bought a BiggRed repair kit for my rear calipers and a special 90 degree bent circlip pliers. I totally failed to get the internal circlip out and had to reassemble the caliper. Thankfully my efforts free'd off the sticking hand brake spindle.

I suspect the only permanent solution is a new pair of calipers like these

You will need to parts number check that this example is correct for 100HP.

Or a rebuild service like these https://www.bcs-automotive.co.uk/fiat/

With rubber hoses I use a clamp to stop fluid loss. Small long nose "Mole" grips are ideal with some rubber hose over the tips to protect the hose.
On my car (braided hose with banjo fittings) I use an M10 bolt with nut and copper washers to prevent fluid loss.

The part number given by that site doesn't turn up anywhere else at all; but it would explain why every single site that claimed to have the BHQ283 in stock would reject/refund the order (or try sell me the BHQ289)... worth a shot anyway, as soon as I get my money back from the fourth supplier!

Have learned that for "modern" parts at least, an in stock message means nothing as they're all just ordering off someone else when its something even vaguely uncommon. Would expect classic specialists probably do hold their own stock.

Let us know how you get on

Arrived with the old part number on the side of the box!

They were cheaper than any of the sites that claimed to and didn't have it, too.
