General What's ur best MPG?

City driving -
Punto Mk2 1.2 Sporting Speedgear (CVT) 33mpg
Peugeot 207 1.6 (conventional auto) 22mpg
Panda Mk2 1.2 Dualogic 45mpg

Hello everybody. Im curious what is ur best MPG (and ur engine ofcourse)
If u got some good eco tips please do share (y)
2009 Dynamic MJT 90k+:
Figures got from tank brimming to tank brimming and gps miles tracked on Google Maps for the long runs only.
Yearly round trips from SE England to Skye and outer Hebrides (>2500m) average 65.5 with a best in 2018 of 67.5mpg. I guess the initial long motorway runs offsets the slow cross country mountain grinds once in the highlands?

I got 68mpg religiously from my 2006 Panda diesel .Once did both directions of my hour each way commute bar the last few miles of my return leg at an indicated 100 MPG !!!!(this would have been hypermiling inc behind lorries but even still ...)I sold this car at 170k having bought it three years plus earlier at under 100k miles .I would have kept it but for the fragile radius arm bushes

Replaced it with a 2010 Panda 1.1 eco with under 10 k miles despite being old enough .I could have cried at the difference .HARSH due to lack of soundproofing and higher reving engine .Got 52 mpg in that by and large but happily traded down to a 2003 Seicento (which I only kept a month or so because of the dreaded clutch cable -although I loved most of that month thrashing ,eh,driving it ) .Since in a MINI 1.4d 2003 which is quiet ,handles and is economical (60mpg?)

I've just done a run from London to Cornwall and back with two surf boards on the roof and got 44.8mpg with a 2004 1.2l with 60k on the clock. Air con turned off, bog standard fuel and tyres.
I have to admit that I thought it would be higher than that, given that's measured from a petrol station just before the motorway, so it's pretty much all extra urban. Especially as the M4 has 50mph limits at the moment, but I'm guessing it's the boards - I'll have to see what it does with them inside next time

My 100HP gets about the same miles per £ on Tesco 99 posh as it does on 95 RON, but it drives so much nicer so I always use that when I can. But I do draw the line. Esso wanted £1.40 per litre for 97 octane. I put in 10 litres of cheap and topped it up at Tescos at £1:18.

The 1.2 is also better with the posh 99 so I generally fill it with that especially if we are going any distance. It needs all the help it can get.

Yes.. aerodynamics..

Anticipate 20 to 40% losses

Just completed a round trip taking in the Lake District, Kirkstone Pass, Hartside and Killhope through Weardale, Teesdale, over the North York Moors to Scarborough and back past the lakes.

Quite a bit of up and down (1st gear for parts of Kirkstone from Ambleside:eek:), hardly any motorway/dual carriageway work. Wonderful roads and great fun in our 2004 1.2 Panda:)

Used three full tanks, so took the opportunity to do proper brim tests.

Total journey: 963.6 miles
Total fuel added: 88.46 litres = 19.46 gallons
Average 49.5mpg (the dash readout indicated 55.8mpg for the entire trip - I noticed our computer routinely gave readings over 10% better than we were actually getting.)

The best we had from one tankful was 51.5mpg. I was surprised how well she did. Something to be tankful for, heh. We weren't hanging about, and had a pretty heavy load on board for the return leg. I guess the wind must have been in our favour:) Both ways. Which never happens.

I've also noticed fitting a rear spoiler has improved mpg. I didn't make any proper calculations before fitting it, but the computer suggets mpg has improved by over 5%.

Yes I agree they seem to prefer the good stuff and run smoother. MPG seems pretty well identical. I tend to alternate between ordinary and super, filling up when half a tank is reached except on long runs when they all get the VSOP stuff! he twin air is much less fussy.

Slower burn so feels better

You would need a higher compression and an ECU that can advance the timing to any real world effect

Even cars that are designed to use the higher RON makes no noticeable difference. An extra 5 HP peak on a rolling road on a 300HP car isn't going to be noticeable driving around town, go shopping or down a motorway

As it is the Panda will make less HP on 99 RON with increased emissions due to less complete burn. Thats in the official literature I posted on here awhile back.

Personally i never go below 60 mpg unless I do a lot of 3 mile tips when it drops to 55.

05 1.2L

I don't go above 54 mph, eco tyres all round at 34 psi. Quite extreme eco driving.

So I theoretically got 67.2mpg yesterday on a 250 miler, with a lot of very steady driving. I didn't pay enough attention to how much petrol I'd put in to work out the actual, but I think that's a pretty impressive figure for a 16 year old car all the same

that what I get with a tail wind and keep the speed to around 55 mph

its rare to average less than 62 mpg unless I i only doing 3 mile trip when it drops to the mid 50s

again a 1.2

I can't match it in a Suzuki splash although that with passengers
