My 2005 MJ is suffering from irregular/lumpy running, particularly below 2000rpm. It's driveable, but annoying.

I can confirm that the bottom part of the air filter box where the Air Mass Sensor bolts on is dry, so water ingress is not the issue, neither is the fuel filter, which has just been replaced. The ECU did have a stored fault code relating to the Air Mass Sensor giving high readings, but having cleared it, the fault has not popped up again. No other faults are reported. So, in the absence of any other cause, I am thinking that maybe the Air Mass Sensor is giving irregular readings, but not enough to trigger a fault code all the time.

I see that Shop4Parts have Air Mass Sensors for the 51kW motor at reasonable cost (see http://www.shop4parts.co.uk/?name=store&op=Results&category=16&secondary=62&opts=1176 ). Does anyone have any experience of these after-market sensors, or have any alternative recommendations?

Finally, can anyone tell me how the stainless steel hose clip securing the turbo inlet pipe to the Air Mass Sensor is released? I'm presuming that a special tool is needed to release and re-secure it?

Many thanks
