Well a good first week for the dualogic Panda. I only managed once to get the multi function display to flash at me "press pedal" You have to have your foot on the brake when moving from neutral to first. It also beeps at you but that can be turned off.

Unlike convential automatics it does not "creep" when sitting at say traffic lights so although leaving your foot on the brake pedal is a good idea its not essential.

Also unlike normal automatics it isn't hell bent on shifting up into top gear at the earliest opportunity. The dualogic changes up very much at the same points I would have done on my previous Panda. Down changes seem nicely spaced as you slow down too.

Well is it worth the extra £600? My first impressions are yes. My daily commute is a mix of busy urban traffic (why do mums taking their kids to private schools need a 4x4 each?!!!) and some dual carriageway. The dualogic handles both well and any manual changes are purely for my amusement. You also get electric mirrors and the full multi function display thrown in, my last Dynamic only had the basic trip computer.

I today received the handbook for the dualogic, when I picked the car up last week it only had an Italian one! The dealer Fiat Research - Nuneaton were quick to sort that out. I know now how to park the car in gear, good on slopes!

Now you've got me curious. How do you leave the dualogic in gear and re-start on a hill?

I presume same technique as used in the selespeeds - like on the Stilo and Alfas - to do a hill start, either keep your right foot on the accelerator, and balance it [although very tricky, and car not that steady] OR more simply, use the handbrake - car remains in first gear, clutch disengaged, and as you release handbrake, give it some gas and the car moves forward as the clutch engages....
