Can someone answer the following for me? It’s mostly to put my mind at ease.

I've just bought a new Fiat Panda Mylife and I’m slightly surprised that it’s not fitted with a locking fuel cap. Should the fuel flap lock when the central locking is enabled?

I don't think it does. I'd rather it didn't,if someone wanted my fuel then I rather they symphoned it out than punctured the tank to nick it.

Perhaps not so surprising when you consider the price at which these cars can be bought new :).

No.

It's fitted with an anti-syphon device, so it's not possible for someone to just stick a hosepipe in & steal your precious fuel. If it really bothers you, just buy a locking cap. IIRC the official FIAT one is about £20.

Love the sarcasm, yet sincerely I thank you both for answering my question.

Am I right in thinking it is also impossible for somebody to put crap into the system to sabotage it?

If I was going to steal fuel, id be looking for cars with big tanks, not pandas!

Yebbut, scroats who steal fuel tend to do so by cutting your lines, catching a gallonish and letting the rest drain away, they're hardly going to be holding the Panda over a bowser and shaking it till the last drops run out, small as it is.

Friend of mine with a Fiat 500 (same tank) had someone puncture hers for the fuel. It was everywhere, I doubt they got more than a gallon or two 'cos there's not much room underneath for anything more than a metal tray, let alone a bucket.

My MJ petrol flap doesn't lock and I'd rather someone try to syphon than do the above.
