Panda Active Eco for £4,995 with the Government Scrappage Incentive Scheme

Chancellor Alistair Darling has announced the introduction of a Car Scrappage Scheme as part of the April 2009 Budget. Motorists are being offered £1,000 towards a new car if they trade in their 10 year old or older vehicle for scrap.
On top of this, Fiat will contribute an additional ecoplus BONUS amount towards the purchase of a new vehicle.

The first Fiat scrappage offer to be confirmed is on the Fiat Panda. Scrappage offers on further Fiat models will be released very shortly – please return to this page for more details

Not the best deal IMHO as it's only £400 cheaper than Fiatsupasaver but it's a good indicator of what's to come.

I collected a new Panda from Perrys last Saturday, the price went up £300 the day i ordered it (about two weeks ago) i got in just in time.
The salesman told me on collection that Fiat hiked the price to them by that amount. It sounds like Mr Darling:)nutter:) had been rumbled!

The Scappage Incentive is supposed to be £2,000 - £1,000 from the government and £1000 from the manufacturer (they didn't make that bit clear in the budget!). Now it seems manufacturers are balking at 'having' to give £1k discount before haggling even begins. I don't blame them - the government are making it look like they are giving £2,000.

the prices do seem to have increased on the Panda at Perrys - but not the 100hp which looks like a better deal now - relatively.
I see Fiat are giving this discount off the full price - 1000 from government and 1100 from Fiat. I didn't think it would be the whole 2 grand off the discounted price but that would have been good - q's a mile ong if that had really been the case.
Have to wonder if you could at least get the govt grand off the Perrys price of 5745 for a active. However the detail gets worked out it's looking obvious that the headline hype isn't going to match the reality. Interestingly in January I paid 5300 for a 1.2 Dynamic (without air con), today a 1.2 Dynamic (with air con) is 6095 at Perrys - take a grand off that is 5095 - not a vast difference seeing as there is supposed to be an extra 2 grand off in that 5095.
Suspect it's still too early for anyone to say how this scheme is really going to work.

This is one of the reasons why I'm now looking at a 500 rather than a Panda. Still might go for the Panda if the prices are still good but if this is on the full price of the car I think it's 500 time for me

I checked out the 500 whilst in the showroom at Perrys.
I was impressed, a great looking car with a suprising amont of space.
But..........I couldn't get out of the back once i had climbed in :D. I just couldn't get my shoulders out, i nearly fell on my face :).

That's it's only way it's the same as a proper 500.

"Scrappage promotions on other Fiat models will be available very shortly. To be the first to receive updates on the car scrappage scheme and Fiat scrappage offers register here."

I've got my fingers crossed that they'll include the 100hp, but i have a feeling it'll just be on the basic model of the other fiat cars. :(

Looking at the ad in the Daily Mirror from Friday it seems clear that the dealers are going to claw back a large percentage of the scrappage charge.I am sure that it was possible to get a Panda 1.1 eco active for this sort of money before the new scrappage deal started

Fiat were already offering about a grand off a Panda. The only difference scrappage makes is you're effectively guaranteed £1000 part-exchange on a ten year old banger.

I spoke to Perrys the day after the budget about a deal on 1.4 16V GP GP :D :D

The salesguy couldn't comment but was hopeful of being able to apply some if not all of the scrappage incentive on top of their current discounts. I'm still waiting for confirmatio but the adverts suggest Fiat are just dabbling at present. Other manufacturers are not doing much either - its certainly not the full 32k government they were hoping for and the dealers have to take the duffers in part ex and do all the paperwork.
