Got a bit of an issue with the power steering in the 04 Active - I've posted before about my P/S not, erm, being powered after returning to normal mode when City had been used - this hasn't happened since.

But I'm now getting a noise that sounds slightly like crunching (!) when doing low speed/no speed turning, when parallel parking. Car is still driving fine, but I just never noticed this before, radio might just have been drowning it out though.

Is this something thats likely to be an actual major problem? Just had to get the back brakes done and a new set of tyres so would prefer not to see the inside of the dealers again for a while...

Anything associated with the steering could be termed a a major problem ..so I would get it checked out for the sake of your health ..and if the city mode is causing the problem the don't use it ..better safe than sorry ..only once have I ever had a problem with rack and pinion steering I turned a corner and the steering wheel kept revolving  the splines at the bottom of the steering column had stripped :bang: fix was a complete rack and pinion and the obligatory big bill :(

Haven't used the City button since ;)

The steerings not heavy at all, its just making the noise. Oddly enough it is only when steering to the right... I'll drop in to the dealers around the corner in the morning - they're fairly decent price wise thankfully.

Hmmmm, I've just noticed a slow speed noise relating to the steering wheel on turning right. 9700 miles on the clock and first service coming up on Saturday. So I think it will be "Oh and the squealing brakes on turning left and reversing are doing my head in (seems to me that the calipers are definately not letting the pads clear the discs after braking - if the wheel speed related 'whistle' is anything to go by) AND what's the story with the groaning power steering?!!":bang:

Certainly worth mentioning before the end of Year 1 Warranty me thinks.

Let's see if I get more than a "would you like us to replace your wiper blades during the service sir?" response. "No, no I'll be happy if you just remove the cap of the replacement oil container and any tools, rags, etc. from the engine bay thanks."

Finally got the car checked there on Wednesday (local dealer all booked up till then), apparently the bushings in the p/s motor are starting to go, but they've said its not required to fix until the steering becomes heavy or entirely unassisted. €780 fitted for a new motor from them...
