Private Plate.....

Hey all, in a bit of dilemma.

When my father passed away I was left his private reg. Now the retention is coming up to renewal and I'm unsure.

On one hand I do not want to dispose or sell it but on the other I don't know if I should assign it to the panda, my opinion slightly tainted by previous experience of people! I know some people have strong opinions about them but in truth I have no opinion either way or good or bad.

What would you guys do?

Re: Private Plate.....

Have it valued, if it's expensive it would be a shame to lose just for the sake of assigning to your car. I'm in the same situation and will be putting on my panda pop soon.
Thanks triumph7 thanked for this post

Re: Private Plate.....

What's the problem with assigning it to the Panda?

Re: Private Plate.....

Normally I wouldn't comment/give my opinion on the likes of this simply because it's a personal choice. The way I see it, you are still emotionally attached to the plate, but you've said you're not bothered whether you put it on your car or not.

For what's it's worth I'm really not a fan of personal plates for more than one reason, but that's a different story. Get it valued/sold & use the money for something you really need for your car, or if it's worth a significant amount of money...........well it's up to you.

I'm just thinking, a wee Panda with a private plate nah! There will be some who will disagree, but just my thoughts.

Re: Private Plate.....

I am in the USA, so I'm hoping I'm reading your discussion right. You can SELL plates with personalization over there, is that right? I do not care for personalized plates myself, but if there's a fuzzy sentimental attachment, I would rethink.
Hope I'm understanding the conversation. If not,N please ignore my ignorance. Thank you !

Re: Private Plate.....

You are reading this discussion correctly Here in the UK personal number plates can be sold. Some can go for stupid money. The most expensive lately sold from the DVLA costing over a million pounds...

I really don't want to hijack this thread, perhaps another story for another time.

Re: Private Plate.....

We have a personal plate on our Panda and I don't see any problem, but it is 80 to retain it for ten years and that includes the reassignment to another vehicle and the change of MOT certificate. I did it all on line in one day, but beware when you do it on line the number is changed instantly so be ready with new plates and change of insurance. By the way some insurers reduce the premium because they see you care for your car.

Re: Private Plate.....

I don't think anyone sees this as a problem, it's all down to personal choice.
The OP was asking peoples thoughts, & like any question asked on this forum you will have different views, pure & simple.

Re: Private Plate.....

Re: Private Plate.....

Yes literally I was curious to what others would do. I will get it valued, but while I'm waiting and sorting instead of putting on retention, I may attach it to the car after all. As it costs me nothing apart from new plates and a few hours of my time seems to be a good option while I consider future plans

Re: Private Plate.....

I bought my missus a reg for chrimbo years ago, it's been on a few cars. It's on her Fiat Panda at the moment. As already said, around 80 to transfer to each car. Cheaper to have on the car than pay out to put it in a cupboard IMHO.

If its relevant to you then I say Do it Dood..
