Hi again all,
as my MOT was due this week I gave Ellana the once over yesterday and concluded that the shock absorber (rear) mounting rubbers were in a poor condition. Rang around this am to be told by my Fiat dealer that the shocks or mounting rubbers are no longer available for my 1990 1000s
- good news is I booked her in anyway and she passed with just a mixture tweek on emissions, a thump to the rear no. plate light and minor adj. to the o/s headlamp :worship: :) (y)
As I would still like to do the mounting rubbers and rear shocks at some future date can anyone verify the non availability issue?
ps - I could have got the shocks from my local accessory shop but he says they don't come with the mounting rubbers...

Just been trawling round on here... when the guy at the accessory shop said £48.50, I thought he mean't for a PAIR - looks like he might have mean't each!!
So glad mine made it through this yr!
That's very civil of you Chris, but if they are no longer available you might need 'em one day!
- from what I've read elswhere on here it might be that my dealer (Priory Fiat of Mansfield) that doesnt stock them rather than them not having a Fiat part no. and being available elsewhere... having said that I'd be glad of some! :worship:

...sorry Satan - which make did you get and how much?

It must depend on who makes them. When I bought new rear shocks for mine they came with the rubbers as well.
yup. my Kayaba's came with cush's ... but i also have a rear full set sitting on a shelf... I think i bought them from shop4parts or something.

Dealer part no is 814677 and as for them not being available BO**OCKS they were fitted to 2002-2003 panda's in Italy and have not changed so are still available and should be till 2013. You require 8 of them and are less than £1 each. I got a full set a while back and said I had to buy them in packs of 20 then decided as i was buying quite a few more bits that they would get 8 on a stock order, a few days later got them.

It may be that the dealer doesn't want to be stuck with 12 on their shelf. I would try another dealer and if you have a problem will call mine if you wish.

Welcome back BTW (y)

I can't remember what make they are as it was ages ago but they only cost me £20 for the pair including delivery. Found them on eBay. The eBay sellers ID is steve-autoparts but I've just done a seller search and he seems to be no longer registered. He may just have changed his name though. (Mine were for the 4x4 by the way).

Cheers all and thanks for the input (y) good to be back among you Panda enthusiasts!
Apologies for late reply... making cider most evenings (while apples plentful) got 18 gals on go now! could be :yum: or :yuck: ?
Can I send you a SAE jiffy bag for those mounting rubbers Chris?
Was going to check the valve clearances this w/end - taken me the last hr to find the feeler gauges though and then I can't read 'em - as it's 12 and 16 thou inlet and exhaust (respectively) I'll need to combine at least two so I'd be as well buying some new ones!
What if I need some shims? Is there a part no. for a set? I'll also need a cam cover gasket as the engine looks a bit oily - there was one on ebay recently for £4.99 - wish I'd gone for it now - think I've got some Hylomar... somewhere.

Good news Alan! while I was looking for the feeler gauges I came upon a jiffy bag with two locks in! Ahem... well she will insist on tdying up after me! - I'll keep 'em in the car this time and fit em asap! thanks for those again btw.

Stuart - I didn't have it easy last yr with that tricky bit of inner sill welding to do...
can't fault the Panda though been everyday workhorse over last year with no probs...
better go and get some feeler gauges.
cheers all! :)

Chris mate - just tried PM ing you, but it says I can't

...just got in from working on car
still sounds like a tappet rattling

with my new feeler gauges I got:
1 - 3 - 6 - 8 exhaust
15 17 18 16 thou (should be .016" +or- .002")

2 - 4 - 5 - 7 inlet
12 13 14 15 thou (should be .012" +or- .002")

so no.7 is just one thou outside tolerance of 2 thou - is this the cause of my rattle?

Every time I take my dash console off I seem to break something - is it just me? this time the centre sw's weren't lighting up... (are now)
now both end brackets have snapped off and only the 3 screws on the bottom are holding it on...
I'll try sending you my address again Chris...
nope, this is what I get:

It's not you that's doing anything wrong, it turns out Chris has been selected to join a FIAT Forum elite, and by Elite I mean there are few of them... the banned. You have to look through any messages he may have sent you with his number in to get in touch as FF is having none of it. Best of luck with that...
