Hi all, my 4x4's propshaft needs 2 new CV boots as the old ones are in tatters (joints are still ok), does anyone know the part no. cost etc of new ones or any other types that fit if originals are unavailable? I guess its an MOT failure if they aren't intact, and i dont want to knacker the joints....

Cheers, Mike

Not sure if these are the bit's but I believe it's No3 part no 5978959 at £12

I cant see the one for the end shaft?

Well, I've got them fitted, but a road test shows that the joint which is a bit ropey needs replacement (no. 5 on the diagram)... it clicks a fair bit and has some vibration, would anyone be able to get a rough price on one pls?

Also I'm after the 4x4 light switch that bolts onto the back of the gearbox, if anyone knows a price or has a working spare they would want to part with, i'd be very grateful.

cheers,
Mike

Part 5 is about £110  the switch £30 odd

Ouch! It looks like I'll have to hang on until a secondhand one appears then....I'll have a trawl on one of those scrapyard search websites, hopefully one will have one thats sensibly priced...

As for the boots they're pretty simple, just remove the front propshaft section, a circlip holds the joint and boot on which are then seperated with a hammer+screwdriver or suchlike, cleaned and reassembled. Joints are packed with CV grease (grey stuff) afterwards, should be at most motor factors etc.
