Hi Guys/Girls. New to the forum and wanted to say Hi, been looking to buy a Mk1-2 4x4 but due to rarity looks like it may have to be a newer model 2004-
Do you have events and meets for people to come along to?
Nick :>

Hi Nick & welcome.

Timing's pretty good - there's a 4x4 Panda event on 12/13th September - have a look at the thread below.

There are plenty of mk2 Panda 4x4's around for sale, but finding a cheap solid one might be more challenging. I couldn't find a cheap mk2, so went for a cheap mk3 - I'll be taking this in September, as my mk2 Sisley is getting a bit too much money in it for off-roading! (y)

Hi. Will check out the thread below. Have looked on ebay but not seen many. A MK3 sounds a good call what age do they start at?

Try looking on car and classics website. There's a few Sisleys on there at the moment that are cheap if they're solid (y)

If you really want a mk1 or 2 panda then I'm not sure a mk3 will cut the mustard in terms of feeling or classic status. If you just want a good capable small 4x4 though than I'm sure a mk3 will be fine for you

The appeal of the MK1-2 is the classic look, and status. but also some green laning which a MK3 would be fine for.

They are very different, but quite similar in a lot of ways - you can feel the original Panda dna.

Mk3 Panda 4x4s seem to be from around 2005-2010. Mine is 2007 and had a high mileage & a fair bit of faded glory! At £1500 I wasn't expecting it to last, but it strolled round the last 4x4 day and is a brilliant little car all round - off-road it is massively more civilised than a mk2 & even better in the snow than my Sisley (which I really didn't expect!) - I drove them back to back on the same roads.

Which is better, well if my life depended on it I'd bank on the mechanical grip of the mk2, but the mk3 is (so far) brilliant. Obviously the mk2 is a proper classic and a mk3 comes nowhere near that, yet...... For green laning, low cost, and general civilisation, you could do far worse than a mk3 though if you're not interested in classic shows. (y)

Well Gavin I think you've sold me on the mk3! My better half bought a Suzuki Jimny when we moved to Devon so we had a small 4x4 for her to zoom about the small lanes around here. It's just not a very nice car so I'm thinking (on your recommendation ;)) swop it for a mk3 4x4 :slayer:

I would! It's pretty good at most things. It's definitely not quick, but can be hustled along ok - there must be a lot more weight than a 2wd, as the 1.2 feels quite quick in that. Of course mine has done 113k, but it's smooth and quiet, and everything still feels tight (good build from the Polish too) - aside from a poorly driver's seat you'd think it had done 30k from the driver's seat & I'm getting 45mpg (so an easy 50 for a normal person). Much nicer place to be than you'd expect & the standard radio/cd is excellent if you follow the advice on the Forum about equaliser settings! :slayer:

I had a Jimny on test drive and after fish tailing after coming off a roundabout at a speed in which a Panda would be ashamed of my hankering for one disappeared!

You can buy my mk3! I don't really use it now I've several MK2's!

It's interior is in much better condition than Gavin's though it does need a flippin' good clean as I used it as a van during the recent renovations!

I'd give you a very good price ;)

I rented a Suzuki Jimny on holiday last year (the convertible one at that) I quite liked its cute little styling and the high driving position yet it still being small but my god does it have the worst handling of anything I've driven.
Gingerly going round corners at sub 20mph and the back sliding out on a couple of occasions really put me off my initial like for them... I still think they'd be cool if the handling wasn't so ropey

Made me appreciate the Panda all the more!
