They are lower profile than the panda's yes. we stood them side to side and the alloys are about two finger widths lower.

Ah. This will contribute to the lighter feel of the steering as well because the side walls aren't as "high" so to speak.

However, it changes the rolling radius of the wheel which affects gearing and speedo reading. It will feel nippier but you'll have to rev higher to achieve the same speed as on the original panda wheels.

Standard Panda tyres are 155/65/13 I believe. Looking at your photo yours are 155/55/13.

The middle number refers to the sidewall height as a percentage of the width of the tyre (155mm). So a 155/55 would have a sidewall height of 85mm and a 155/65 would have a sidewall height of 101 mm (all measurements rounded to nearest whole number). A difference of 16mm in height or 32mm in overall radius.

Not much but it will increase your fuel consumption as well.

The previous tyres were 135. these ones are now 165. Its deffinatley quicker when you go from 20-60, but anything over 70 she's shaking like the wheels aren't balanced.. had them done yesterday though. The camber isn't vertical though, they toe in a fair bit which is negative camber iirc?

Still, i'm very happy with them and they do the job so its :D for me

The 135 tyres were probably between 135/70/13 and 135/80/13, hence making the overall rolling radius roughly the same as 155/65/13. Your new 165/55/13 tyres are lower profile as default_user pointed out, which has decreased the rolling radius and effectively lowered the gearing. Your speedo will over-read as a result giving the impression that your car is quicker, and unless you've somehow defied the laws of physics the lower profile tyres have definitely NOT made your car any faster than it was previously ;)

Had the tracking done about a month ago, just before MOT. still confused at to what it might be. the only thing i can see that is wrong is camber.. and the facts and figures in haynes don't really mean anything o me unfortuantley, but its the same hub so dont see what the problem is.. unless because its bigger tires its amplified the issue of wobble?

Something some of you may not know, but when you put on alloys and bolt them up, if you dont do it evenly the alloy can jam against the bolt, causing it to feel tight when it isn't fully done up. apparently the best way is to just put them on, drive see how it feels, then remove and refit and it usually sorts it... having said this the last time it was tried by someone i know was about 20yrs ago!

My cinq alloys were rather wobbly at speed too (but the Uno ones were fine)

Put me off the whole 'alloy' thing:(

Jim

We have a slight vibration at about 65mph but it soon goes when you hit 70 and upwards. We was told that one of the alloys had a very slight buckle in it when we took her in to get the tracking and balancing done.

I just saved a Sisley from certain scrapping!!! See photos in other thread...

As far as Sparky is concerned I straightened the ariel yesterday; it was nice and sunny so I thought I'd go and work on the car for a bit... :p:D

Good work to all above!!! They're lookin good people!

Craig, I'd take the wheels back to the people who balanced them the first time and gently explain to them that your wheels are still wobbling at high speed and would they mind making sure they did the job properly... It took S**t Fit two goes to get mine done properly... Hope you get them sorted...

All the best everyone, Luke. (y)

Unfortunatley i do not speak Polish. They took all the weights from the outside of the rim and moved them inside. Tyre place at the end of the road from work so might pop round later on. they'll probably let me see it balanced too so i know for certain.

Ahhhhh.....inside always looks neat but outside is better i'v always been told...could be your problem....

I've seen on newer alloys they put weights on the inside of the wheel.. like on the "flat" probably get glued on in the factory though.

I think some "better" tyre places've got that type but I'm not sure how they stick them....

Off the wheel topic and on to what I got up too on sunday...

What have I done for her lately?

I hung out the sunroof and John hung out the door for the nice lady from the Irish News to take our pic!

Now, back to the wheels again, LOL ;)
