Im new to this, and really hoping someone can help with this problem. My 2011 twin air would start with difficulty, symptoms like a flat battery. Checked the top and bottom earth strap for continuity, both OK, fitted new starter motor, battery is fine (12.4v) but result is just the same. Now at a loss what to check. Anyone got any ideas please.....

Hi, many thanks for your response, the problem is cranking, the starter motor is very lazy or the solenoid just clicks when the ignition key is turned. There are 12.3v at the positive connection on the starter solenoid, and even with a jump lead from the neg battery post to the engine the result is the same.

Pretty sudden, no work apart from general maintenance and MOT, got us very perplexed as not sure what is left to check.

I'd be getting the battery checked if you haven't already, Halfords or similar will do a free test.

"Symptoms of a flat battery"...I wouldn't even bother getting it tested if it's more than 3yrs old, especially if a stop start variety - just replace it as batteries can fail at that age. It might be giving the voltage but not the cranking amps required

Can you check the battery voltage while it is cranking? I think it should be at least 10V, any less and the battery is dud.

Many thanks for all your responses and help, it was very much appreciated. Fitted a new battery this morning, even though the old one was testing as fine, car starts like a dream. Only wasted a week of time and new starter, still should be happy the problem is sorted. Thanks once again lovely people.
