Twinair wont start....

Im new to this, and really hoping someone can help with this problem. My 2011 twin air would start with difficulty, symptoms like a flat battery. Checked the top and bottom earth strap for continuity, both OK, fitted new starter motor, battery is fine (12.4v) but result is just the same. Now at a loss what to check. Anyone got any ideas please.....

Re: Twinair wont start....

Hi, many thanks for your response, the problem is cranking, the starter motor is very lazy or the solenoid just clicks when the ignition key is turned. There are 12.3v at the positive connection on the starter solenoid, and even with a jump lead from the neg battery post to the engine the result is the same.

Hi
You seem to have covered the obvious stuff pretty well

Has this been a gradual decline?

No other work carried out in this timeframe..?

Re: Twinair wont start....

With a clicking solenoid.. it certainly sounds like an issue with the flow of power

How many miles on the car?

Pretty sudden, no work apart from general maintenance and MOT, got us very perplexed as not sure what is left to check.

Unlikely to be a worn ignition switch then.

Try cranking with your foot on the clutch : less parts turning.

If no difference.. contemplate uncoupling the Alternator drive belt..

Drag from seizing bearings can cause such issues

Re: Twinair wont start....

I'd be getting the battery checked if you haven't already, Halfords or similar will do a free test.

Re: Twinair wont start....

"Symptoms of a flat battery"...I wouldn't even bother getting it tested if it's more than 3yrs old, especially if a stop start variety - just replace it as batteries can fail at that age. It might be giving the voltage but not the cranking amps required

Re: Twinair wont start....

Can you check the battery voltage while it is cranking? I think it should be at least 10V, any less and the battery is dud.

Many thanks for all your responses and help, it was very much appreciated. Fitted a new battery this morning, even though the old one was testing as fine, car starts like a dream. Only wasted a week of time and new starter, still should be happy the problem is sorted. Thanks once again lovely people.
