Had our new 500c (new to us) for around a month... My wife said she thinks it's smoking a bit.... However as a passenger yesterday.. smoking a little was an understatement.. It was blowing blue smoke badly and at the same time bluey black smoke too.. The car is 2011 it has only 31000 miles on the clock verified... It had been used as a second car garaged and serviced every year by main dealer.... The blue smoke (was defo blue oily smoke at first)..later it turned black then cleared.. But its the blue smoke that is concerning.. Car will be going back anyway but any help would be appreciated.. Mark

Many thanks for your quick reply. The is under a 3 mth dealer warranty so it is going back to them but just wanted to be forewarned. Cheers

Hi Chris firstly thx for your reply... I got up this morning the first thing I did was dip the oil.. Bearing in mind the low mileage and full history... The oil level is approx 3 to 5mm over the full limit.. If this is the cause can you suggest a fix and if any what damage would be done many thx again for your help

And I thought this problem - oil dilution - was an issue related only to diesels and DPF regeneration? My pal in Maryland - he of Mk1 Corvette fame - alerted me to this problem that Honda seem to have been having for some time with their new turbo petrol engines.

Haven't heard anything of it over this side of the pond? or does someone know different? I'm particularly interested because I rather like the new 1.5 Jazz Sport - which, although direct injection, is not turboed (One of the main reasons I'm interested)

Ps - Nervously keeping a very close eye on the oil level in my 1.0 litre direct injection Ibiza, although there are no reported issues with them but I do quite a lot of my driving in the city these days.

A 2011 plate multijet 500 will have a dpf as it's a diesel engine and they are known to have a few runaway and destroy the engine

Over?
If drive it the absolutely minimum until it's sorted then
It really needs the oil draining and refilling to the correct level especially if you get a warning light for the dpf needing to regen

If the oil level gets too high on these engine's the oil can endup in the cylinders and the car can start running on its own oil known as diesel runaway and if you don't stall them then can run until the engine destroys itself

Really it wants an oil and filter change

However.. to get an 'inflated oil volume'

There is a strong likelyhood that the vehicle is not regenerating correctly.

Get this addressed at the same time..

Unfortunately it is not uncommon for garages to charge for an oil change.. but they do not perform the necessary resetting of things in the background.. and these can be the cause of it all. :(

Eml appearing intermittently, as well as being smokey power loss towards top of rev range... but otherwise drove fine.....
Just an update... Had the car fully serviced by main dealer who has done the oil, filters etc.. etc.. Then reset the system and lights have gone out, with no smoke and drives normally.. All reads normal with no codes or error messages.. Thanks all..

The article above is interesting, "Honda spokesman Chris Martin says the 1.5L’s cooling system is highly efficient, and therefore the engine is slow to reach a normal operating temperature".

A highly efficient cooling system allows an engine to get to temperature as quickly as possible and then prevent overheating.

I can't beleive this guy, Chris Martin, said that with a straight face!
